Trip Blog for Alsace and Paris

Trip Blog for Alsace and Paris -- text by Michael and photos by Susan O'Brien

At 1:00 p.m. we’re sitting in Charles De Gaulle Airport, outside of Paris. Our connecting flight to Strasbourg has been delayed by fog. Hopefully we will be able to board in half an hour or so.

We’ve found that trying to traverse this airport is like trying to get through a giant maze. We took a tram, at which we arrived after a hurried, ten-minute walk, but after disembarking from the tram as… Continue

Thanks!

I noticed some great additions to the Fodor's discussion today from "ronkala", "Amy", and "dorism". If you are on the cafe, thanks for your support! Any mention of us on these forums, especially with a link, can help get the cyberbuzz going!

USA Skier, Scott Macartney

This 29 year old young man suffered a major fall with significant head injury in Kitzbuhl, Austria on Saturday in a World Cup competition. The movie is on my video site here on my page. You can see that he had a focal/generalized seizure immediately. The doctors were at his side in seconds, and he was air-evacuated within minutes. He was placed in an artificial coma until Sunday night, then allowed to awaken, and is alert and talking now. He has no memory of the entire day… Continue

Swiss Family Sullivan going to California

What a great vacation!

After meeting all those wonderful American guests last summer by showing some interesting things possibly to visit during their stay in the Swiss Heartland, me and my family travelled to the East coast last October 2007. We landed after a long flight stopping in Philadelphia after all in San Diego. My husband Martin who already spent one week there because of business (Red Bull Air Race at San Diego) picked us up and we drove up to Los Angeles to pick our RV… Continue

USA Candidates in CH Newspapers

Today's Democrat is John Edwards, age 54, born and educated in NC, and a Methodist. His experience is as a US Senator from NC and John Kerry's running mate in 2004. He has 12+ million dollars in his war chest.

His strengths are his energy and his appearance as the embodiment of "The American Dream". His coming from little means to being a millionaire. He champions the workers and is a good speaker. He makes the ladies' hearts beat faster (their words remember). A good…

CH Newspapers and USA Elections

Today's Democrat is Hillary Clinton, labeled as "The First Lady".They give her age and birth state. They mention that she went to Wellesly College, Yale Law School, and is a Methodist. Her experience lists her being the first lady of Arkansas, the first lady of the USA, and the now senator of NY in the USA Senate.

Hillary's war chest is listed as 50.46 million US$. The paper sees her experience as being an insider in the White House, a competent senator who can cross…

USA Presidential Candidates in a CH Newspaper

Candidates for USA President were profiled in the local newspaper (The New Obwalden Newspaper) a few days ago. USA politics usually makes page 13 with a two inch column, but this time they gave it a the whole page 3. The article lists 3 Democrats and 4 Republicans (bias??: I don't know). Anyway, I'm going to tell you what they say about one of each party with several blogs.

Barack Obama is labeled as "The Reformer". His experience is as a state senator from Illinois…

Traveling Alone

Like Nancy, whose blog I just read, I do some of my traveling alone because my husband hates to travel. Usually I've just signed on to a tour, but at 68, I'm now considering a more leisurely style. I've been wanting to see the Italian Alpes, but worry about just packing up & going it alone. Any Advice??
