Today we tasted a Greek Gyro for the first time in our lives. We will never be the same. While Eleanor waited in the park behind Notre Dame, I went to rue St. Severin and purchased one gyro. Now my job was to bring this savory smelling concoction back to Eleanor without tasting it. On the way people commented on how good it smelled. I finally made it back to Eleanor, and our picnic began. The sun came out and the birds zeroed in. Our bottle of Bordeaux lost its cork. Our glasses were filled. We were the envy of passerbys. We have now come to the conclusion that we've wasted 75% of our lives for never having had a Gyro before. This was one of our best days in Paris. Sitting in a park in the shadow of Notre Dame with birds singing, flowers at their peak, a light breeze blowing, and the enjoyment of good food and wine. This was followed by a walk around Ile St. Louis, pausing only for a Berthillon ice cream and some street concerts. Romance was in the air. Couples embraced in unexpected places. Now the sadness begins. In a few days this will all come to an end.
