"Dead Man Walking" - Our last Days in Paris

Sunday, May 18, 2008. We took it easy today. Eleanor's foot is feeling better since we started using the wheelchair. This morning we met Larry & Claudia for petit dejeuner (coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, croissant with jam and buttered half baguette) at the Excelsior Brasserie near the Pompidou Center. Then we went back to their apartment for some technical advise on computers, HD televisions and other technical gizmos which Eleanor took notes on. Larry told us about Canauxrama cruises. So we are seriously thinking of taking an all day round trip Banks of the River Marne Cruise on Tuesday. After our visit with Larry & Claudia, we headed back home and had a nice lunch at Little Italy on rue Montorgueil. Now we are trying to get our packing organized so the Tuesday cruise will be possible without last minute packing hanging over our heads. Tomorrow we are scheduled for a lunch cruise on the Seine with Bateaux Parisien.

It's amazing how many different things there are to do and see in Paris. Janet & I returned to the U.S. from Paris on May 7. We had done the Barcelona-Paris Sampler. In Paris, we enjoyed several museums, the Montparnasse Tower, the France Galop (steeplechase races) at the Hippodrome, Versailles, an Art Faire near the Bastille, Jardins des Plantes & Tuileries, and the posh galleries on Rue Haussmann, among other things.

The walking has taken it's toll on both of us despite using the Metro. My pedometer total is about 102 miles so far. My black shoes return to the apartment each day with a talc-like coating of dust from the Parisien paths in the parks. We are so tired at the end of each day, we stay in the apartment and recuperate instead of going out in the evening. I don't remember being this tired on our one month Swiss Heartland trip, when we walked a total of about 120 miles. We did not hold back on the desserts, croissants and baguettes in Paris. But I'm sure we both lost weight.

I too am going to bring my pedometer to Paris so I can justify eating all those wonderful pastries. I'm reading your blogs and viewing your videos with great interest, as I will be going to Paris in a little over a month. Thanks for all the information.
