Swiss Oberland was our very first Untour. After it we were hooked on Untours. If you like, check out my Switzerland Photo Album.
Also I have a very detailed tripblog of things to see and do in Switzerland that you might find interesting too.

Has anyone stayed in the Meiringen apartment Hermann lower since it was destryed by the flood/landslide a few years ago? We had friends staying there before the disaster but haven't seen it since and were thinking of renting it in 2009 with our kids in Hermann upper. But we are concerned about storage (closet space, storage for bathroom items, food, etc. Comfortable for sitting and reading in the evening? .Lighting? Can't tell from the pictures. It was small but serviceable then. How about now? Jerry Nolan

One of the main reasons we return to Switzerland year after year is that we leave our autos and all associated concerns behind. The Swiss transportation system does all the driving for us. What a feeling of freedom!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel in Zurich? I would like to stay an extra two days there.

Henry,
We recently stayed at the Hotel Allegra in Kloten. The hotel was very nice and located at an easy train stop. It is about 15 minutes by train from the Zurich train station and offers a shuttle to and from the airport. They have a restaurant, however, we chose to buy food at a grocery store which is across the street from the hotel. I believe there may be other lower priced hotels in Kloten which offer a similar experience. We spent the last day of our Swiss Untour in Zurich and enjoyed it tremendously. Hope this helps..Tom

Hi Henry: Agree with Tom, we enjoy our overnight at the Allegra (coming from the west coast)--and love the traditional frustuck. I'm a happy camper when I can prepare my two cups of cappaccino from the fine coffee machine in the breakfast room. And, there are less expensive hotels in Kloten. But I recall some excellent suggestions from Untourists (in the past) for hotels or B&B's in Zurich--which would be more convenient. Also, if your rail pass expires during these extra days you would avoid the added cost of traveling back and forth from Kloten to Zurich. Ask the question by e-mail at idyllchat@lists.untours.com and see if you get some responses. It's been quiet over there.

We also stayed at the Hotel Allegra in Kloten this past Sept./Oct. I would definitely stay there again. Clean and convenient for our meeting the UnTour group the next day and also for our last night before leaving Switzerland. There are a couple of photos in the video that I just posted. We did eat our last dinner at the hotel's restaurant and it was very good.

Oberland- Easy trips and hikes.
My wife and I spent three weeks in Switzerland in 2008, and I have some very definite recommendations for must see trips and hikes that would be good for almost anyone staying in the Lake Thun area. Besides riding the boat around Lake Thun and visiting Thun itself, make sure you visit the following:
The Niederhorn on Lake Thun
Lauterbrunnen Valley
Hike from Murren to Winteregg, or all the way to Grutschalp
Hike from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengernalp [going all the way to Wengen can be kind of hard on the knees going downhill.]
I've posted pictures showing portions of these areas. Under Photos, you can look under Alpenglow or Don Mitchell's photos. Under Albums, look under Oberland easy hikes.

We will be staying in Lungern during the first two weeks of Sept. A friend recommended that we go to Lake Thun and take the boat ride. Is this doable in one day? Also, I could use alittle help nagigating untours cafe. Can you delete comments? Or do they just stay on until a certain date. In addition, is the only way to "put your two cents in by adding to a comment. How do you start a discussion? Thanks for any help. Marion

Comment by Deanna Streit just now Delete Comment We are planning an Untour (Swiss Ticino) next Fall. We are preceeding that tour with a Viking River Cruise (Southern France). We are planning on going on our own to Normandy after our cruise and before our Untour. Any suggestions on traveling from one area to the other? Thank you in advance! Deanna & Bob
