We stayed with Frau Ageter in Kandersteg. Her daughter Monica lived next door and we talked to her every day. One day we went up to Oschinensee and stopped for dessert at a restaurant up there. The waitress came and it was Monica. We started talking to her and she acted as if she had never seen us before in her life. Finally she said," I am Barbara you must think I am my sister Monica." We said,"Are you twins?" Barbara said,"No, we are triplets!!"
Which Untours have you already done?
Swiss Heartland (2), Swiss Oberland (2), Austria and Provence.
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Just do it! Once you take an Untour, you will never want to travel any other way.
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
Swiss Oberland

Venice April 8 - 22, 2009

We recently returned from two fantastic weeks on an Untour to one of the world's most amazing cities, Venice.

Arriving at 2:00 PM, we were met at the airport by Denny, a delightful person. As we walked to the water taxi, I asked Denny when the other Untourists would be arriving. She told us that we were the only ones this term. Needless to say we were very disappointed as we very much enjoy meeting our fellow travelers.

Our breath was taken away as our boat approached the… Continue

Triplets! Unbelievable. Thanks for adding your photos and for that great anecdote.

It's wonderful to have more folks here joining us at the Untours Cafe. If you happen to run into any problems, don't hesitate to send me a message!

Hey Johana,

Welcome. Your pictures are gorgeous. I like the one of the calf, but all of your Swiss ones are amazingly sharp. It must have been on one of those wonderful clear days. I remember someone describing the rare day with not a speck of haze as one where you could "reach out and prick your finger on the peaks of the Alps."

In May 2007 my husband and I did the Provence Untour and had a terrific time even though I was suffering terribly from hip pain. Five weeks ago I had a total hip replacement and am amazed at how well I am doing. Now I am biding my time until our next Untour back to the Swiss Oberland in 2008. With my new hip, I plan to do a lot of hiking.

Hi! Loved your photos. We exchanged several e-mails a few years back and I see you're doing as many Untours as I am. Maybe more!!! I took a son and family on an Untour to Kandersteg last year. They loved it!

Hi Shirley,

Two people with the same last name should be friends!! My sister-in-law is Shirley Thornton also. Yes, I remember the emails several years ago. You gave me some helpful info, I really enjoy this new Untours Cafe. Isn't Kandersteg wonderful !! we are going back next year and taking friends who have never been to Europe.

What a lovely way to end the day, and prepare for sleep. I looked at your photos, and they were so beautiful and pleasing to view. They filled me with calmness and peacefulness. Now, I'm ready to prepare for bed and enjoy a restful night.
Thanks for sharing them with us.

Johana, another good place to stay is in Swiss Oberland in the town of Gwatt. It is very near the town of Thun and along the Thunersee. We stayed at the Bartlome apt which we highly recommend. Susi Bartlome is a real dear.
From Gwatt/Thun it is very easy to travel to anywhere in Switzerland. It's kinda in the middle of everything.

Johanna,
We like when we meet up with other Untourists too. Another place to try that this happens is South Tuscany at the Poggiarellino apartments. There are, I believe, 4 or 5 apts located together and we went to dinner a lot with others and shared our stories.
The other suggestion I have for this type of mingling is the Bavarian Castle. There are about 4 apts right in the castle and 2-3 on the castle grounds.
We have met some nice friends thru Untours that we keep in touch with still. Also I have met a very nice lady in St Louis who I have never met except on Idyllchat. She sent us a bunch of info before going to Switzerland and we have continued to email ever since.
Untourists are the best!

Hi Johana: We have been going to Sachseln, Chalet Berit, every other year for 17 years. We enjoy it so much, that we are returning in June/July 2008--a little later than our usual time. This year was special, as we finally were able to meet Shirley Thornton (not your sister-in-law) for the first time, who I have corresponded with over the years. We do sneak over to the Oberland and walk there too! Untours is so special, and the Cafe adds yet another element.
