We usually make a side trip to Appenzeller land. My son likes to visit the graveyard there - very beautiful and historical. One late afternoon, we lingered about an hour there. As we were leaving, we were approached by a lovely older woman who we had seen watering flowers along w/ other people.

We made introductions, and she gave a lengthy recount of Appenzell history. Between her English and our German, we could get along and join the discussion. We tried to go on our way but she insisted we see her historical home a few blocks away. This seemed like a nice invitation and she was insistent, so we went along.

Indeed, she had a very old and beautiful home - much antique artwork, carvings and such. She made coffee and brought out cookies. My son said, "no thanks" to the cookie, which made the woman a little mad and she really tried to force the cookie.

We finally excused ourselves. My son said he felt like Hansel when the woman tried to force cookies upon him. We heard later thru some folks in Urnasch that the woman frequently "picks up" tourists in the graveyard and takes them to her home for cookies. We will steer clear next time we see her.
Which Untours have you already done?
All Swiss Untours - some multiple times
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
GO!!!
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
all of them

Yay, Amy is here!

Words of wisdom if I ever heard them: "Hike until I drop, then eat something delicious with ice cream for dessert."

How about putting some of those great pictures you take up here.

I am going to send you a friend request. (We recommend that you only say yes to friend requests from folks you know, so we like to give you a heads up its. coming.)

Be sure to let us know if we can be of help.

Hi Amy,

Happy to be your friend. It looks like we share a love of Switzerland. Most of my time has been spent in the greater St. Gallen area since that is where my brother lives. Last fall we went on a Ticino Untour and loved the Italian speaking area....much softer in all regards. I grew up reading Heidi! Ann

Headphones and a microphone. You must be a radio broadcaster....or maybe a Rock Star?

Thanks for the nice comment on my Alsace blog, Amy. Switzerland is my husband's favorite place in the world - being on the Grandmother's Walk is absolute heaven to him. I love it there too. We'd be torn next visit between Kandersteg and the Christiana in Hilterfingen. It was so nice to be able to walk down the street and hop so easily on those boats and get to Interlaken that way! We will go back for sure!! France can surprise you; the people we met were so warm and friendly and the little towns in both Alsace and Provence are pretty incredible....

So sorry for the delay in answering. We have been in Alaska for the past two weeks. Just to answer the question, the Dalmation Coast is along the Adriatic where Croatia is. It is beautiful and so far not as expensive as the rest of Europe. We are thinking of going there next year and Untours Right Place has apartments there.

Hi Amy, No I don't know Leslie Costa. I've lived in Paradise 14 years. I enjoyed your photos - it looks like we stayed in the same apt in Kandersteg. Chalet Alpentraum. In '05 I took my 2 grandsons and their parents there. This year I'll stay in Meiringen and Sachseln. I love CH - which explains why I go every year!!!

What funny story should I do for my profile? Appenzel cemetary? Teeth? Meeting Walter?
