Taking the Plunge

We finally took the plunge and are planning our first Untour. Our daughter will be graduating from high school next June. Before she heads off to college, we wanted to take a special family trip. The only thing she wanted was "to experience a different place and culture." We let her choose an Untour. She initially chose Tuscany South, but after reading through the triplogs, decided on the Swiss Ticino/Venice sampler. All four of us are excited, and a little nervous, for our first overseas trip!

Hi, Jane,

You are lucky.....Venice is incomparable and the Ticino is one of my personal favorites for Untours. Be sure to go to the tiny little valley villages.....

Maybe you should search the Cafe for photos of Ticino and you would find some.

We have lots of friendly voices of experience who have done the trips you have taken. Just look at all the advice the person got when they asked a question on the forum.....they got 19 replies of people that knew a lot! YOu can read about it here.

Let us know if we can be of further help.

HI Jane,

Don't forget to check out the "New Stuff" tab.

It's a great way to catch up on what's happening lately. Also try searching....I just typed in Venice and was astonished to find there's a jillion albums of Venice photos you can browse through...

Thanks for your note and welcome to Untours. We have been traveling with them since 1994. Will be interested to hear about your trip. We were in Ticino in 1994 as a part of our first Untour. A very interesting city that still allows you to hike and explore high places as well as have the city life. We are doing a Venice-Florence trip in the fall of 2008! So - enjoy the cafe and Untours!

Hi Jane,
I know that nervous feeling you are having. We had the same feeling before we went on out first Untour. In fact my husband had to talk me into it. No longer a problem. Untours makes you feel comfortable about your travels. You can depend that your apt is going to be clean and nice with a great location. The Untours local staff have all been so kind and helpful on each trip. It's so nice to know that if you would encounter any problems there is someone like them available to you. What's really great about Untours though is that there is no herding around with a tour. You get to do what you want when you want.
We haven't been to Swiss Ticino or Venice yet; however, we have been to Swiss Oberland and found the Swiss to be extemely nice people. The same with the Italians in Tuscany. I know you will have a very wonderful vacation at both places.
Take lots of photos. You won't be sorry. You might be interested in reading my blog on using your digital camera as a travel journal. You can find it along with lots of my photos from Switzerland and Italy on my page.
Hope you have a wonderful trip. Start planning your travels now with a little research. Can't wait to hear about it.

In Venice be prepared to walk ... and walk ... and walk. And don't be intimidated by taking the vaparettos, easy and cheap to hop on and off wherever you are or want to go. You can even take them to the islands.

Hi Jane and Tom:

Thanks for you comments on my blog.
We loved both Venice and the Ticino. We've been to the Ticino once with Idyll and twice on our own. What I love most about it is Italian ambience, but Swiss cleanliness and orderliness! Once, when we were staying in Lugano, we went to a market in Luino, Italy. At lunch time, we looked around for both a rest room and a decent restaurant; we couldn't find either, so ended up taking the bus back to Switzerland for our creature comforts!!!

If you have any questions about either destination, feel free to email me vkelber1@gmail.com.

By the way, you will love Denny, the Idyll representative in Venice! She's very helpful and has a wonderful sense of humor.

Here is what you are missing by taking an Untour! We snapped a photo of a giant bus (rare) driving thru Meiringen in the Swiss Heartland. I wonder if these folks even knew where they were - bet not!
