Tales of Andalusia - Part Five

September 29: Saturday afternoon, we returned "home" to the cortijo. It really did feel like a home-coming; we are so happy and comfortable here. Our new friends - los javali - wild boars - greeted us. We feed them acorns so they wag their tails every time we come out onto the patio. They really are pretty cute. One is fatter than the other because he is a bully! Little does he know...

We really wanted a siesta, but first I put a load of laundry in while Gabe took a dip in the (very cold!)… Continue

Tales of Andalusia - Part Four

Saturday, September 29: The clouds parted a bit to let some of that very blue sky shine through. We walked through the Jardines Murillo to Cafe Altamira, my old breakfast spot. Except look who seems perfectly at home, sipping his coffee!

The orange juice was just as good as I remembered. Fortified, we took a nice long walk around the Barrio de Santa Cruz, stopping in plazas and shops along the way. Santa Cruz is considered Sevilla's "old neighborhood",… Continue

Tales of Andalusia - Part Three

Friday, September 28, 2007: We drive to Sevilla, the city where I lived during my junior year of college. On the approach to the city, I was a nervous wreck! It was very emotional to be back after a seven-year absence. All my feelings of excitement and anticipation came together to form a knot in my stomach.

Then, our hostel lost our reservation! Some quick thinking and accented castellano had us lodged in the Hotel Alcazar within minutes. What a lucky break! Our balcony faced the… Continue

Budapest fall 2008

Our first Untours experience was in Budapest where we stayed in an apartment that was conveniently located near public transportation, grocery and convenience stores, and restaurants. Two weeks allowed us time to visit main tourist attractions as well as explore places off the beaten track. The Hungarian language was difficult and the currency made us feel like millionaires since one dollar purchased about 180 Hungarian forints. The weather was ideal for walking, sightseeing, and enjoying… Continue

Come un Sogno...the final installment...but not the end.

11/03/08

Just before I left home to come to Venice I happened upon a website for tours called The Venice Experience. I liked the idea of a private tour (not a group of other people that I would have to keep up with) but figured they would be out of my price range. Imagine my surprise to find what I considered reasonably priced tours. A photography tour for one was E111…about $150.00 US. I checked out the link to Mike’s pictures on their website and decided that was a good treat for me. I’m… Continue

Come Un Sogno...part five

The latest installment includes 10/31/ continued:

This evening was the night that I should have been having dinner with HomeFoods.IT but…when I attempted to make my reservation from home it wouldn’t accept my US phone number and I got no response when I requested help. This was just as well as tonight it is raining in sheets. It’s a total downpour with lightening and thunder. I would never have found the house or would have been soaked to the skin even with an umbrella. So, staying in and… Continue

Paris photos

An old high school friend of mine, Peter Havrilla, lives in Brazil. He emailed me these professional photos of Paris. The photographer is unknown. Most of the shots were taken at night or early morning with an ultra wide angle lens.

I really enjoyed them. If you want to see some unusual photographs of some familiar Paris sites, these will interest you.…

Hal in the Philadelphia Inquirer (again)

The Inquirer ran another story on Hal after getting wind of a Foundation donations of dolls to several worthy causes. Why does Hal have dolls to give away? You'll need to read the article to get the full story.

Come un Sogno...Part four

10/29/08

Has it really been a week already? I have been so charmed with wandering around that I haven’t been in a museum. I also haven’t done any serious shopping. I have taken lots of photos; 338 to be exact. That’s not counting the ones I deleted. At least for this trip there will be no waiting six months to have film developed as I can afford it since the new digital camera will just load onto my computer. It’s just a pocket sized Nikon Coolpix but it takes lovely pictures.

The… Continue
