Entering the Lake Yellowstone Hotel, July 11, 2012

These were the sights and sounds that greeted us as we entered the Lake Yellowstone Hotel, prior to having a special dinner to celebrate our 42nd Anniversary. We could not afford this place for dinner on our honeymoon in 1970 at Yellowstone. Back then Eleanor prepared our dinner on a Coleman stove in the bathroom of our room at Canyon Village....hot dogs and beans. That was the first meal she cooked for us as newlyweds.…

The search for Lake Eleanor.

It was July, 1970, our honeymoon.  We were on the first big adventure of our lives.   Everything we encountered was new to us.  Everything after that was measured by that first experience.  Our first encounter in Yellowstone was a gravel road, off the eastern entrance road.  It led to a small lake.  We stopped to take photos.  There was a sign.  It read "Lake Eleanor."  What are the odds?  It was as if magic was in the air.  Eleanor posed while I took a photo. …

The grave of Sacajawea

In 1995 on our second honeymoon to Yellowstone, we celebrated our 25th anniversary at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel dining room. After our meal, while visiting the gift shop, we fell in love with a statue of Sacajawea. We purchased it. On our trip this summer we had the chance to visit the actual grave of Sacajawea at Fort Washakie, Wyoming in the Wind River Indian Reservation.
