Back to Tuscany in Italy!
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
We have only done one Untour, to Northern Tuscany. We stayed in a small village near Pisa.
Then this past year we did a sampler with one week in Holland, Leiden and the second week on the Rhine. We would return to Holland in a heartbeat! It was wonderful!

Tripblog: St. Goar, Germany September 22-29, 2010

A week in St. Goar, Germany was the second half of an Untour sampler we did in September 2010. Our first week was in Leiden, Holland. We traveled from Holland to Germany on the trains, using our Benelux Rail pass from Untours.

We had never been to Germany so decided that a week on the Rhine would be a nice introduction to the culture. St. Goar is a very good location for this Untour.

The town itself, while a bit… Continue

Tripblog: Leiden, Holland September 14 - 22, 2010

We just returned from a recent Untours sampler trip. We spent one week in Leiden in the Netherlands, and one week on the Rhine River in Germany in the town of St. Goar. We received so much assistance from past Untourists as we planned our trip that we want to reciprocate with a short report on our trip for future travelers. This blog will cover the first week in Leiden, Holland.

We had Untours do our air as well and everything went very smoothly with British Airways from LAX to… Continue

Where are you going in Italy in October? Are you
part of the group going to North Tuscany with the
Keys? If so, I just sent Mr. Key a comment regarding
special places to go and where to eat!

We are going to Tuscany North but we are not a part of any group. We will be staying at the Azzuro apartment for two weeks, beginning Oct. 10. If your comment sent to Mr. Key is "public" on the site I will try to hunt it down! Otherwise, I would appreciate the information. We are looking forward to the Untour. I have lurked on the Idyllchat site for years and we finally decided to add a 2 week Untour to the itinerary for our month in Italy. Our first week will be in the Veneto and our last week visiting family in Sicily. Regarding Tuscany North, we are most interested in how people navigated a trip from Calci to Cinque Terre. We are planning an overnight in Vernazzia and are wondering about where and how to leave the car.

First, thanks for being my friend! If you will go to
my Page and scroll down to the Forum comments on
the left side, you will see my response to Ann Key
regarding North Tuscany.
Also, we did not get to Cinque Terre so can't help
you with that.

Thank you so much for your comment. I use Microsoft's Digital Image Suite 10 (it's about three years old now) and it has Photo Story 2.0. Uploading the photos is easy, editing can be a bit dicey but creating the photo shows is easy. You pick the pictures, supply the commentary (need a mike but they are very cheap) and it's child's play from there.

Hi, maybe we will be there the same time - we arrive Sept 15 to Oberwesel. I am wondering about whether to take Euros along or use our debit card - since you have gone on Untours previously I guess you like it! This is our first trip. Tina Kratz

LOVED Leiden. One week wasn't enough. Our guides (Ekatrina and Janice) were wonderful and informative. The town wasn't touristy - didn't see any other Americans there (but apparently, it's where the Dutch go for their vacations). Cobblestone streets/sidewalks - so bring good walking shoes! Buses and trains are easy to figure out ('tho German schedules are a bit easier). The Dutch speak excellent English (kids are required to learn English and German starting at a young age) and there are many restaurants (Thai, Greek, Indonesian, Italian....) from which to choose. Be sure to take a canal cruise - it was a relaxing way to view the city. The supermarket just around the corner had everything you could want - the cheese, of course, was excellent (I didn't get a chance to try "Old Amsterdam," but Ekatrina highly recommended it), the fruits and vegetables were quite fresh. We visited Amsterdam one morning - didn't like it -wall to wall people, mostly tourists. Did see the Rijksmuseum - which was great - but crowded. I didn't get a chance to see the Dutch Resistance Museum, which I really wanted to see, but my daughter was on her last legs. One of our best days was visiting Texel Island. Easy train ride to Den Helder, then a ferry to the island. We rented bikes there and pedaled around. Our optional tour was to visit the Hague and to tour the Peace Palace, which was terrific. I'd visit Leiden again in a heartbeat.
