Profile Information

What is your favorite place in Europe so far?
Venice, Italy
Where would you most like to go next?
Venice, or Leiden
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
Collecting the watches in Venice with the milafilo decoration around the dial, and different colored bands. Only paid between 12 and 15 euros on all my seven visits there.
When you upload photos to Untours Cafe, you are also giving Untours permission to use the photos in their promotional material (with credit to you)
In Mestre on the mainland of Venice, my two daughters and I were shopping in Panarama - a huge Super Kmart type store - when a Venetian "demonstrater" came up to me and, in Italian, explained and tried to sell me a set of meltless ice cubes. I kept saying "non" and "grazie". It took a while to convince her I did not want her product. She never knew I didn't (and still don't) speak a lick of Italian! My girls were standing off to the side, laughing their heads off, knowing I didn't know what the lady was saying.
Which Untours have you already done?
Venice
In addition to the funny moment we had at Panorama, my daughter and I shared another hilarious moment.

When visiting Burano there were lots of German Art students, sketching and visiting the island. When we left we, by mistake, got on the wrong vaporetto that was packed with the students, and that went the very long way back to Venice. We parked ourselves on the top of the double-decker, and had to sit all scrunched together it was so crowded. Decided to go down inside where there was more room, and it was almost empty. Beverly and I were sitting on a bench all alone, when she said: " Mom, you don't have to sit so close." Here I was, still sitting scrunched up next to her. When I realized what I had done, we both broke out in uncontrollable laughter. I still laugh when I think of that moment!

Re: Revised Funny Moment

I'm not sure how the Cafe dates our posts, but my revised Funny Moment was posted at 10:31 this morning, July 16, on My Page, but it was lumped with my earlier post of 19 hours ago that I couldn't access. I had intended for the revised post to be current and by itself, so that the members would know it was a new and easier-to-find post. The new post is about my hilarious experience on a vaporetto.

Funny Moment on an Untour - revised

If any of you had as much trouble finding the rest of my Funny Moment from yesterday as I did, this is a reprint of that blog - without the "continue":

Funny moment on an Untour

On My Page I wrote about another funny - really a hilarious - moment while on the vaporetto from Burano to Venice, going the lo-ong way back!

Wings of Venice

A large group of Venetian glassmakers made this for the 2005 Biennale, an avant guarde art exibit by artists from all over the world. In 2007 it was on exibit at the Marco Polo airport.

Hidden Moments

The photo on My Page was taken while in Venice with my daughter in 1999. She was trying to take my picture while I was reading my map, so I hid behind a pole. Thus was born my "Hidden Moments". Here is another "Hidden Moment":

Hi Lynanne, you were so helpful on Idyllchat as we planned our trip to Venice. I just wanted to thank you again.
We are still sorting all our photos-I will try to post a few when we are done, maybe you will see some of your favorite places.
I was given the name of another good Venice read before we left:
"Lucifer's Shadow"-sorry but the author escapes me for now, and I can't locate my notes. If you haven't already read it, you should enjoy it. I found it at Barne's and Noble in paperback. I left it in the Casino apartment when we came home, so hopefully some other Untourists have enjoyed it as well.

You sound like you enjoy being a "Venetian's Venetian". If I ever go, I hope you have written a guidebook.

Hi Lynanne,

Glad you are thinking about Leiden. It's a wonderful place. We haven't stayed in the Vermeer apt. so I'm not sure about the second door. Have a great time. Tom

You enter the building where the black 'This is your position' arrow points on the first floor. We've always stayed on the second floor (which I would highly recommend). The staircase up is steep, but it's quieter upstairs away from the street.

Bill Kover,
If/when the photo committee approves my new hidden moment, I have another view of me ;-]

To all Cafe Members, I love seeing your photos, but if more than 4 are posted at one time, I seem to tune them out, and don't look at any of them. How about keeping them short and sweet, and entice us to look forward to more!! Lynanne
