Thanks Ed for the nice comments. With our travels still going on, I just haven't had the chance to do anything at all with our Austria Trip. We had a great time and saw a lot of places. Yes we do need to compare. BarkerhouseBob was there at the same time we were so we'll have another comparison.
I need to take some time to look at everyone's photos and blogs that I've missed in the past couple months.

Hi Ed, Happy to have you as a new friend. We have done all three Swiss Untours and would be hard pressed to choose a favorite although the Heartland was the one that made me feel most a part of the mountain community. We stayed on the Hasliberg and it is like living in a Swiss fantasy. Our very first Untour way back in '92 was to Austria so I enjoyed reliving it through your excellent pictures. We stayed in Kuchl and remember that wonderful main street so well. Think our favorite day trip was to Hallstatt. We rented one of those little pedal boats early in the morning and I will never ever forget the views from the water. No digital camera then though - so I am happy to have your photos to bring back the memories.

Ed. we were In Meiringen Switzerland, from Meiringen you can take the cable car and lifts up to the Alpen Tower. At the Alpen Tower there is a wonderful brunch served. Shirley Thornton and I went for the lunch, and this is where we took the picture, outside on the gravel path. The brunch was great, 38 Swiss francs, but that includes the 3 lifts up and back to Meiringen. So it was worth it, So glad you like the picture. Jean and Fred

I live in West Seattle which got even more snow than downtown. I had five inches last Sunday that stayed around through Wednesday and got washed away. Then it started snowing again about 5:50am on Thursday and by the evening I had 8 inches and then again last night dumped about another five inches and it's snowing again. That's just out my window. My car which is parked about a block away due to a construction project on the condo building where I live is covered with snow and if I didn't know it was my car I wouldn't even be able to tell it was a car. Luckily no snow plow is going to mistake it for a drift because they won't get there anytime soon. On top of the snow is about a quarter inch layer of ice. The streets are treacherous. Not a good time for a visit.
Thanks for your comments on my photos. The one thing I try to tell people is always get closer than you think you need to. I could have stepped back and gotten all of San Marco in the mist but it wouldn't have been the same.

The background story of your photo is almost as interesting as the photo itself. Who knew you could digitalize slides like that -- well obviously, you knew.

Yes, I did see your bullfight pictures. Spain is next on our agenda and my husband wants to go to a bullfight, but I'm thinking I'll choose another activity for that day. It seems a bit too violent for my taste.

I also have "played" with Google Earth, but have never used it to plan trips. I might have to try that. I actually found it after our trip to Greece when my camera was stolen on the last day of a three week trip and I lost nearly 1000 pictures. I went to Google Earth then and printed off a lot of pictures of places we had been to and things we saw so that I had something to bring back the memories. Also, several gracious Untours people sent me pictures they had taken.

I sent a comment, but I don't see it here. I was gone all day but will try to walk you through how I get my Cafe photos to save tomorrow. Lynanne

Thanks Ed. I have used Google Maps before, but not to much international. Mostly for State side use. I'll give a go and let you know what happens. Dave Myers

Thanks Ed - your excellent photos indicate you have covered a lot of ground! I believe you'll really enjoy Switzerland as we did. We enjoyed the Heartland region so much that we never did venture afar as we had originally planned.
